Transmission Coolers

Q. What is a transmission cooler?

A. A transmission cooler is basically a small version of your radiator that is used specifically to cool the transmission fluid in your transmission.

Q. Why would I want a transmission cooler?

A. This upgrade is a fantastic way to extend the life of your transmission by keeping your transmission fluid temperatures cooler, therefore keeping your transmission and all of its parts cooler.

Q. What brands, sizes and costs are we talking about?

A. There are many brands available at varying prices. Most of us are using the B&M 19,000 GVW transmission cooler. You can order this unit for about $45.00 through your performance parts house or mail order company (such as Jegs @ 800-345-4545, part # 130-70268). If you don't mind spending a little more money, and you can fit a larger unit in (ie: 24,000 GVW or larger) go for it!

Q. Can I install this unit myself?

A. As with most of the performance mods, if you are mechanically inclined there is no reason you can't do the job yourself. The process should take about 1-2 hours, so if you want to have a shop do it, it should be $40-100 or so. We will be adding a section here on the "How-To" of the installation soon!
