Make Your Tailights Flash

Many people have expressed a desire for their rear tailights to flash with the headlights when the factory alarm is armed/disarmed with the keyfob. This is a relatively easy thing to do, and the parts required are very inexpensive. Here are the instructions to install a circuit to make the GP97/98/99 brake lights flash when arming the factory UA6 alarm system.

With this method you will join the brake light circuit with the DRL circuit on the theft relay. The brake light switch is located above the brake pedal and the theft relay is on the left wall just about where your left kneecap is. Two diodes will steer current so the two circuits do not interact.

Parts Required
Four 16 gauge Insulated Butt Connectors.
Two feet 16 gauge wire.
Two three way connectors
Two 6amp/50Volt high current rectifier diodes
Optional - two new fastening clips for lower fiber IP panel

Installation Instructions Remove lower fiber IP panel below steering wheel Remove light by unscrewing Remove lower plastic IP panel (remove screws then pull toward chair) Locate theft relay on left wall (Or,Wht,Or,Yellow wires) Unplug connector (push lock in, see picture 1) Cut yellow wire about two inches from connector Install diode#1 across cut with bar away from connector Cut two inch piece of wire Butt connect diode#2 with two inch wire on bar side Butt connect about two feet of wire to other side of diode#2 Three way connect (splice) jumper wire to white wire on brake switch so the bar is closer to brake switch (See picture 2) Threeway (splice) other end of jumper wire to yellow wire on theft relay so jumper wire is between connector and diode#1 Test the installation. Turn on the headlights. The centre mount brake light should be OFF.Make sure diode#1 and diode#2 do not get hot to the touch. Turn off headlights. Close all doors and trunk and get behindcar. Arm the system. The brake lights should flash with headlights. Replace the plastic IP panel, the light, and the fiber IP panel.

Important
Make sure all the connections are insulated from metal of car.
The circuit depends on POLARITY being correct.
The bar on the diodes define their polarity
So the bar MUST be correctly oriented.
Make sure the bar on diode#1 in yellow wire is towards the harness and NOT the relay connector.
Make sure the bar on diode#2 is towards the brake switch.
Make sure the jumper wire is in between the relay connector and diode#1.
